What being a Cultural manager means to me

As a cultural manager, I align myself with an evolving field that bridges the principles of creativity and management. Cultural management has grown from traditional arts administration, incorporating entrepreneurial strategies, and now embraces co-creation and user-centered approaches. My work reflects the essence of Cross-Cultural Management (CCM), which focuses on human behavior, interaction, and the influence of culture within organizations. By fostering collaboration across diverse cultural landscapes, I seek to understand and enhance the dynamics between individuals and communities, ensuring that every initiative is deeply rooted in its unique organizational and personal context.

Promoting dance diplomacy

For me, cultural and dance diplomacy are deeply personal, reflecting my belief in the transformative power of culture as a bridge between people, communities, and nations. While the term “cultural diplomacy” may be modern, its essence has existed for centuries—seen in the work of explorers, artists, and teachers who acted as informal ambassadors, exchanging ideas and fostering mutual understanding. Cultural diplomacy goes beyond simple exchanges; it is about connecting hearts and minds, fostering peace, and countering division through shared cultural experiences.

Dance, as a universal language, holds a special place in this exchange. Each dance form carries the history, identity, and values of its culture, yet its adaptability allows it to transcend boundaries. Whether through the fluid fusion of Caribbean and European styles in Cuban ballet or the diverse influences shaping flamenco, dance embodies the richness of cultural interplay. It communicates beyond words, embodying “soft power” through its ability to evoke emotion and understanding.

In my work, I see dance as a profound tool not just for artistic expression but for fostering intercultural dialogue and nation-building. It highlights diversity while celebrating unity, presenting the symbolic and linguistic essence of a community. By championing dance diplomacy, I aim to contribute to a world where cultural diversity is a source of strength, understanding, and global collaboration, enriching both international relations and individual lives.
